NDT REVOLUTION

NDT REVOLUTION- NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING FOR THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY.

Most Popular Inspection Techniques for the Oil and Gas Industry:-

  • Equipment for running petroleum products (such as a pipeline) can be inspected without making any structural changes.
  • Equipment is not harming during NDT therefore there is not a reason to shut down not to interrupt operations. Which NDT technique used depends a great deal on what needs inspecting.

Some inspection methods are more effective than others at providing certain information. The most common NDT methods used for inspecting oil and gas equipment are:-

  • VISUAL INSPECTION.

  • ULTRASONIC TECHNIQUES.
  • RADIOGRAPHY TESTING.

  • LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING.

  • MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION.

  • EDDY CURRENT TESTING.

  • ACOUSTIC EMISSION TESTING.

  • LEAK TESTING.

  • PAUT (Phased array ultrasonic testing).

  • TOFD ( Time of flight diffraction)

  • GUIDED WAVE TESTING.

  • ELECTROMAGNETIC ACOUSTIC TRANSDUCER TESTING.

  • AUTOMATIC INSPECTION.

ULTRASONIC INSPECTION METHOD

Ultrasonic testing makes use of sound waves whose frequencies (50 kHz - 50 MHz) don’t listen by the human ear.

The piezoelectric material effect in the ultrasonic transducer makes it possible to transmit and receive from within the material. The ultrasonic probe makes it possible to inspect the internal material of the equipment and to detect thickness change, welds, cracks, voids, and other types of material or structural defects. The limitation of this method is that data acquisition and evaluation depends on the expertise of the engineer. This makes it difficult to come at nonsubjective readings and precision.
